Nurturing and memory

Well, I’m sorry I’ve been quiet, but I’ve been on holiday! We went to Norfolk. The caravan was freezing but apart from that we had a lovely time!

While away, my friend looked after Gabriel. I call her his Fairy Godmother!

So, I asked her how she got on with him, like, did she change him or whatever – She had previously bought him some onesies.

No, she hadn’t, but….she put him to bed at night, kept him warm, and out of sunlight. She carried him around and worked with her one free hand.

She was reminded of how she held her now grown up son, and did everything one handed (as you do!).

It’s funny, because I do this too….and it takes me back to when I used to have my son in one arm etc…..

So, we’ve noticed than nurturing is a natural thing. Picking a baby up in a certain way, and even speaking to them is inbuilt.

It’s very interesting! And Fairy Grandmother really enjoyed having him over 🙂

Interesting huh?

Here’s Gabriel Andrew:

Gabriel has arrived!

Well, I never knew that Royal Mail came in the evening! So, it’s another surprise today:) (that’s two surprises in one week already !)

So, he came well packed….

I had to get a stanly knife to the box!

This is what I saw upon opening:

He was originally wearing girls clothes ( I got this doll second hand) but I’ve not put a picture up because I forgot to take one.

Here he is! And he is heavy and his body has been badly weighted. It’s like he has a brick in his bottom!

He isn’t a reborn in the true sense, but I do love his face !

I need to also modify him to put a neck ring on, Gracie needs one too, so its going to be a bit of an adventure as I’ve never reweighed a doll or modified one either!

I hope you like him!

Until next time…Cheryl

A surprise – it’s twins!!

Well, I had a giant surprise today!

I saw a Gracie sculpt on eBay Marketplace some time ago. It came up again on my feed today, so I messaged the seller. She was available, but we had to collect her today, and obviously pay for her at the same time! Well, my husband graciously paid for her, (bear in mind I’ve got another doll coming!) and took me to get her!

Here’s the first picture of them both:

Aimee is on the right as you look at the picture.

And then another, I was having so much fun!

Aimee Marie is in the dark suit and Gracie Rose sits with her.

There are some differences between the two – Gracie is lighter colouring, and doesn’t have eyelashes. She’s also much heavier.

I actually want to re weight her, and put in a neck thing so her head turns. I might even get brave and give her a new body too, if I’m feeling brave!

She’s been mistreated, sadly, but she is ok. I’m just so glad to have her. The only thing apart from damaged areas is that she is shiny. I don’t know how to fix that, but hey ho, I love her anyway, and once dressed it’s not noticeable.

I wonder when my other baby will come? Lol!

Oh……and I might have a buyer already for Victoria!

Skipper Paper Dolls (Whitman, 1976)

I love this! I remember something similar from my childhood.

Confessions of a Doll Collectors Daughter

Today, I wanted to show you one of my favorite Skipper paper doll sets. Made by Whitman in 1976, this set features an adorable Skipper doll designed to wear some stylish fashions.

I love how innocent Skipper looks in this box art. It reminds me of what Quick Curl Skipper would look like drawn. The paper doll packaged with this set, however, reminds me more of a Living Skipper. The freckles on her face are probably my favorite thing about this design. Below are some of the fashions Skipper comes with. (My set is missing a tutu outfit.)

Super casual, but super cute! Mattel, can you make Skipper’s orange shirt in my size?

I love this red baby doll outfit!

The orange alphabet outfit is another favorite of mine!

Such a fun bathing suit and cover!

The coat and skirt above is totally something I’d try on!

Which is your…

Sunday Sleeper/OOTD

Here’s Aimee Marie in her new sleeper with matching hat. I bought this last weekend from a boot fair, with another one and some onesies.

It’s got tiny little pink hearts on it. I thought it was a pretty set.

Here’s the outfit of the day- it’s quite chilly here, and a little windy, so she’s got her thick cardigan on over her t shirt, and some grey leggings.

I’m really looking forward to putting her in dresses!

I hope it warms up soon and that you’ve had a good Sunday!

Reborn videos….

I don’t know about you, but I watch a lot of videos from Reborn collectors, role play people and artists.

Here’s a few people I recommend:

Raendom Reborns – thoughtful content and beautiful babies.

Suzy Q’s Bunting Babes – she has a wonderful and friendly way about her, with lovely babies.

Susazanne’sbabies – Suzanne is lovely and you see lots of her two silicones as well as her other babies. Along with Suzy, they’re both warm and friendly people.

Lamby’s Nursery – not just babies, but useful conversation about life, like coping with stress. She’s young but very aware of others, and she cares about her subscribers.

I couldn’t work out how to link directly to their YouTube pages, but if you just type the names in, you should find them.

If you have a you tube channel then please put the details in the comments, I’m sure there’s other great content out there!

Until next time, take care!

What I look for in a reborn doll (from a tag on YouTube)

I watched a video from Raendom Reborns about what she looks for in a reborn or silicone doll, and I thought I’d share what I look for too. Here’s the link to the video I watched:

Here’s what I look for, obviously it’s my own opinion, I’m aware that it’s a very personal choice:) :

I like life like dolls. My Ashton Drake doll is very much a doll. I now know what I like because I’ve got a reborn too.

First of all, I have to love the face. The eye lashes and eyebrows have to look natural, not stuck on or as though the eyebrows have been tattooed on 🙂

this is what I mean, natural:

This is the Gracie sculpt by Donna RuBert, reborn by Eternal Infants on eBay.

The hands

Detailing is really important to me. Lifelike hands, mottling and creases help to give the “real baby” look:

Same with the feet.

I really look at these details, because it seems you can tell a good paint job by them 😉

And finally, I’ve discovered I really don’t like mohair! So, I like painted hair, and obviously this is the simplest hair to look after! Done with care, it can be stunning. Again, I’ve used my Gracie sculpt to illustrate:

Also, the length and weight of the baby are important. Some people have mobility issues, and a heavy doll might not be a great idea in this case. I like them heavy, real babies can be quite chunky Lol!

I like bodies that are like this one.

The disc system for the limbs is my preferred type, because they give the limbs natural floppiness. The only gripe I have with my doll is that her body Is white. I’d have liked her to tone with the limbs, but I love her anyway, so it’s not a problem:)

Weighted limbs add to the realism too.

Magnets are not a deal breaker for me l I prefer to see my dolls face, I want to look at the artwork.

What do you look for in a doll, or what are your main ideals when creating a doll?

Do comment!

PS I wasn’t paid or anything to mention Eternal Infants or given any incentive for this post. I genuinely think they’re great artists!

You can find them on EBay.

Sleeper Sunday and reactions to reborns.

So, here’s my Victoria in her latest sleeper. We have dinosaurs of different colours along with tiny landscape elements. I thought it was fun, and I like dinosaurs though that might change if I ever bumped into one! (Good job they aren’t around now!)

Reactions to reborn dolls

Now, I know some people don’t like babies or are nervous of them. But dolls?

Why do I mention this?

Well, I’ve shown Aimee and Victoria to 3 people. Only one would get near them. The other two freaked out!

To me, they’re works of art, and very beautiful, especially Aimee who does look quite lifelike!

I suppose it’s a tribute to the artist that people freak out 🙂

Anyone else with Reborns experience the same thing? By the way, I don’t force them on people, they’ve asked to see them. Also, I’m trying to understand, and I’m not complaining, I just don’t get it, LOL!

yet another haul and a photo shoot !!

All the clothes that I bought recently!

I had a doll clothes trying on session yesterday, since I bought more clothes on Friday! I really should stop buying baby clothes. Im running out of room! storage is at a premium and its getting even harder with my new hobby!!! Im cramming everything into my workroom and its getting a little too cosy LOL!!

I hope you like the pictures. Here’s how I am storing my girls:

This is actually a wash basket, since it is the easiest and cheapest option. Of course Id love to have a proper cot to show them off in but I just don’t have the room!!!

How do you store/display your babies? Id love to know!!!

I watched a brilliant video by Raendom Reborns on Youtube, and in it she tells some important information on storing reborns.

The Video Link is :

She also links to some articles about the subject. The best one in my humble opinion is :

This one

I hope all this info helps! it helped me (my wash basket has holes and is covered with a muslin cloth to keep the plastic away from direct contact with my girls.)

take care!
